He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Langen and Arlene Van Langen (Greenfield); and his nephew Justin Severe. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Stewart; his children, Jill Lorenz (Ron) of Norwalk, Iowa and Dan Van Langen (Cassie) of Adel, Iowa; his grandchildren, Levi Lorenz, Cadie, Drew, Tori, William and Weston Van Langen; and his siblings, Orin Van Langen (Susan) of Benbrook, Mike Van Langen (Patricia) of Rockmart, Georgia and Vicki Severe (Steve) of Webster City, Iowa. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
