He was predeceased by: his father Lee Royce Vandewater. He is survived by: his mother Helen Jean Vandewater (Roberts) of Ames; his wife Paula Vandewater of Ames; his son Lee Vandewater (Jessica); his grandchildren, Grant and Brynna of Winterset; his son Jon Vandewater (Heather); his grandchildren, Abigale, Madison, Kailee and Eddie of Ames; and his siblings, Dennis Vandewater (Nancy) of Eagle Grove, Jayne McClanahan (Craig) of Ames and David Vandewater (Connie) of Gardner, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Brian was also a selfless volunteer of his time, serving in multiple leadership capacities for the Iowa Games, the Ames Izaak Walton League, the Iowa Sportsmen's Federation, the National Rifle Association and the Iowa Barn Foundation.
