He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Ballantyne and Doris Ballantyne (Green); and his son Jeffrey. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie; his children, David Ballantyne (Jana) of Nevada, Janice Ballantyne of Olathe and Leigh Benson of Ames; his granddaughters, Alisha Benson of Ames and Brittany Ballantyne of Ankeny; and his sister Marilyn Nervig of Ames.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Kelley First Responders/Westory Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
