He is survived by: his wife Patty; his children, David Popelka (Sandy) of Ames, Daryl Popelka (Elena) of Oskaloosa and Susanne Haas of Apple Valley, MN; his grandchildren, Jeremy Popelka (Amanda), Kristofer Popelka (Dawn), Kraig Popelka, Kindra Mahowald (David), Roxie Popelka and Casey Popelka; his sister Joan Croft; and also Patricia Shiery. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Melvin's name may be directed to First Christian Church in Ames.
