He was predeceased by: his parents, Beryl Cottington and Arlene Cottington (Carlson); his siblings, Merril Cottington and Darla Cottington; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cottington, Phylis Cottington and Theresa Sorenson; Virgil and Mary Tempel.
He is survived by: his wife Jan Tempel of Ames, Iowa; his children, Brent Cottington (Laura) of Saint Michael, Stacy Osborn (Jeff) of Eagle Grove and Kelly Nelson of Waterloo, Iowa; his grandchildren, Zachary (Calista), Samuel, Brandi (Ben), Brittney (Keegan), Brooklyn, Alexis and Talan; his great grandchild Sterling; his brother Gary Cottington of Pella, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Charles Wilcox of Stratford, Kathy Chaney (Marvin) of Raytown and George Sorenson of Eldora, Iowa. He is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Grandon Funeral & Cremation Care (414 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Stanhope Parish (495 Grace St, Stanhope, IA 50246).
