He was predeceased by: his daughter Christine Sue Ernst; his wife Catherine Ann Bachman; and his brother Richard Bachman. He is survived by: his children, William Clemens Bachman of Waterloo, Karen Lynn Schmitz (Brian) of Marion and John Robert Bachman (Joni) of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Eric Ernst (Kristen), Gregory Ernst (Emily), Brian Ernst (Dana), Melissa Herman (Kevin), Jason Osborn (Laura), Megan Landolt (Jesse), Kristen TeBrink (Tim), Benjamin Bachman, Bethany Bachman, Megan Weber (Steve) and Valerie Schmitz (Brett); and his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Maddie, Noah, Bennett, Cade, Ellie, Jordan, Asher, Kaylynn, Treyson, Melaney and Ozzie.
