He was predeceased by : his parents, Clarence Heyne and Velma Heyne (Burt); his parents-in-law, Harry and Grace Russman; and his brother Larry Heyne.

He is survived by : his wife Ruth Heyne (Russman); his sons, Scott Heyne (Jana), Chris Heyne (Diane) and Matt Heyne (Martha Lee); his stepsons, Jeff Hamm (Shawna) and Jason Hamm (Sonja); his grandchildren, Brooke, Lily, Ava, Faith, Maggie, Mia Heyne, Emma, Gracie, Jordyn, Justyn Hamm, Amanda and Sam Church; his sister Joann Anderson; and his siblings-in-law, Harold and Marilyn Russman.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit organizations Don was passionate for.
