He was predeceased by: his parents, Llyod Petersen and Eleanor Petersen; and his wife Shirley M. Hart. He is survived by: his children, Nancy Shryack (Jerry) of Bettendorf and Michael Petersen (Barbara) of Bettendorf; his grandsons, Chad Petersen of East Moline and Christopher Petersen (Lauren) of Davenport; and his sister Wanda Detterman (Larry) of Clinton.

Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association or to the American Heart Association.
