He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter Brooks and Josephine Brooks (Hessel); his spouse Sharon; his children, Teresa Pangan of Bettendorf, Lisa Brooks (Brian Rashka) of Bettendorf, Melissa Clemons (Mark) of Bettendorf, Todd Brooks (Ronnie) of Rock Island and Christopher Brooks (Teresa) of Trophy Club, Texas; his sibling's children, Dawn Kelley (Ernie) of Lehigh Acres, Florida and Jeff Smit (Claudine) of McPherson; his sister Mary Jo Smit; and his nephew Steve Smit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Lions Club or to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf.
