He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Hammes and Theresa Hammes (Gries); his former wife Elizabeth Besser; his wife Joyce Roberts (Ream); his sons, Drew and Jeff Hammes; and his stepdaughter Beth Bayer.
He is survived by: his children, Wynn Hammes (Mary) of Davenport, Mark Hammes (Debra) of Davenport and Amy Hammes (Matthew Murphy); and his stepchildren, Charlie Roberts (Becky), Tom Roberts (Colleen Riley) of Morrison, Colorado and Margaret Ortiz (Jon). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.
