He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Guy Mendenhall and Florence Mendenhall; his wife Carolyn; his brother Wendell Mendenhall (Barbara); his daughters, Lori Mally (Craig) and Judi Mendenhall (Jean Schwendau); his nephew Patric Preston; his niece Tammie Jepsen (Mike); his grandchildren, Tiffany Dvorak (Bill), Cody Mally, Kaitlyn Preston, Emma Preston, Abbie Preston and Brandon Jepsen; and his great grandchildren, Vinny Dvorak and Nora Mally.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family for some type of memorial in Gale's name at the Iowa State Fair.
