He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn Bower (Lord) and James Bower Sr. From; and his pet Jake. He is survived by: his wife Connie Hellweg of Camanche; his daughters, Jami Stutting (Joe) of Princeton, Lesley Birley (Troy) of Camanche and Shelley Blankenship (Pat) of Lake City, Iowa; and his siblings, Tom Bower (Judy) of Hanover, Virginia and Anita Evans (John) of Livingston. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Clinton Humane Society.
