He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Mueterthies and Julia Mueterthies (Reicks); his wife Goldie Easterling Reel; his son Scott Michael Mueterthies; and his brothers, Clarence and Alfred "Fritz" Mueterthies.
He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Lena Mueterthies of Ames; his stepchildren, Robert Reel (Uriah), Bohrer of Des Moines, Glen Reel of Cedar Falls and Lana Floy (Lance) of Clear Lake; his grandchildren, Jaz Mueterthies of Ames, Skylar, Zac Mueterthies of Cedar Falls, Stephanie Hohenzy (Shawn) of Cedar Falls, Shanna Floy of Des Moines, Alesha Wiegmann of Des Moines and Ashley Reel of Hampton; his sisters, Bernice Kout of Lawler and Delores Schluetter of New Hampton; and his sister-in-law Joan Mueterthies of Lawler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
