He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Vern and Alma Amanda Johnston (Lane); his wife Karen Kay Dietrich; his son Glen; and his grandson Joshua Zirger.
He is survived by: his former wife Lila Fry; and his children, Rick Johnston of Blue Rapids, Tena Larson (Kurt) of Waterville, Carol Lynn Johnston of Blue Rapids, Mandy Anderson of Mankato, Sue Brenner (Jim) of Randolph and Denise Johnston of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family or to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
