He was predeceased by : his parent Alva Sylvester (Sauer); his wife Rose Marie; his daughters, Cathy Faulkner and Mary Smith; his siblings, Ella Louise, Deane, Cleo and Clair Sylvester; his siblings-in-law, Jean Sylvester, Joe Cronin, Jim Cronin and Jim Shovlain; and his father David M Sylvester.

He is survived by : his children, Laura Koering (Dave), Joan Sylvester, Colleen Kurtz (Mark) of DeWitt, Julie DeLancey (Jay) of Mt. Vernon, Janice Brady (Mark), Karen Malone (Isaac) and Dennis Sylvester of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Charlie Faulkner (Michelle), Melissa Faulkner, Amy Rouse (Rayce), Billy Faulkner, Matthew Smith (Meg), Adam Smith (Emily), Ashley Bissell (Dustin), Jennifer, Benjamin Koering, Jacob, Jordan Henderson, Jaylee, Jace, Josie DeLancey, Nicklaus and Kayla Brady; his great grandchildren, Sophia Faulkner, Kamryn, Madalyn, Dylan Kramer, Kayleigh Faulkner, Olivia, Avery, Trinity, Alexis Rouse, Maeve, Edward Smith, Nikolas Smith, Blaine and Sawyer Bissell; his sons-in-law, Randy Faulkner and Sterling Smith of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Peg Cronin of Ft Dodge, Marcella Shovlain of Davenport and Jack Cronin of Callander.

The family has requested everyone attending to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
