He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther B. Thompson and Mary "Ruth" Thompson (Sharp); his wife Martha Meza; his son Marc II; his brothers, Ronald, Richard and Michael; and his nephew Christopher Trimble.

He is survived by: his sisters, Linda Sickles (Russ) of Cedar Rapids and Pat Thompson of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
