He was predeceased by: his wife Jeanette; his son Patrick; his brothers, Allen and David; and his parents, William Hamer and Florence House Hamer.

He is survived by: his children, Douglas (Denise Alger) of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Paula) of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Sue) of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Christy) of Savannah, GA and Teresa Smith (Larry) of Cedar Rapids; and his sister Laura Keister of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchild.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
