He is survived by : his parents, Dolores Wright and Prentiss Thurmond, Sr. (Shirley) of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Archie Stewart (Hattie) of Goodman, MS, Martha (Dennis) of Waterloo, IA, Milton Thurmond of Iowa City, IA, Vernedia Lea-Luedeman (Eric) and Quentin Thurmond (Jessica) of Cedar Rapids; his children, Chanté Thurmond (Gerald) of Chicago, Shane Thurmond of Chicago, J'nae Thurmond of Chicago, Darius Holt of Davenport, IA, Prentiss Thurmond III of Des Moines, IA and Dallen Christiansen of Center Point, IA; his former wife Beth Martinez Thurmond; and his close friend Marc Sturges. He is also survived by five grandchildren; 16 nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Saturday, October 16th 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service (520 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404).
