He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Ekstrand and Ruth Ekstrand (Hale); his son Burr Ekstrand; and his sister Joan Tullberg. He is survived by: his wife Doris Jean Heitland of Cedar Rapids; his daughter Janet Herrington (Clancy) of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Roland Tullberg of Maryville, MO and Carol Maxwell of Sunland City, AZ.. He is also survived by four grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Christ Church Presbyterian or the Hiawatha American Legion.
