He is survived by: his parents, Lois Johnson and Lynn Garland Swaney; his wife Ann of Cedar Rapids; his children, Susan Swaney (Ian Woollen) of Bloomington, IN and David Swaney; his grandchildren, Jake Woollen, Vienna, Samuel and Sylvia Swaney; his sister Sally Lund; his brother-in-law Dean Lund of Denver, CO; his brother Dick Summerwill; and his sister-in-law Joyce Summerwill of Iowa City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cedar Rapids Free Clinic or Orchestra Iowa.
