He was predeceased by: his siblings, Helen, Minor, Wayne, Paul and Nadine.
He is survived by: his spouses, Marlene Buhrmann of Conroy, IA and Kay; his children, Julie Gutman (Mark), Dan Baty (Dee), Janet Oja (late Kurt), Jana Happel (Jim Anaya), Bill Happel (Tami) and Bob Happel (Julia); his grandchildren, Shay Gutman, Corey Gutman, Nicole Baty, Harrison Baty, Brad Oja (Brooke), Derek Oja (Brittney Pasker), Andrea Happel, Emilo Anaya Happel, Kayla Hubler (Cory), Shauna Rasmussen, Ray Happel and Samantha Happel; his great grandchildren, Landon, Carter, Macy Oja and Jack Hubler; and his sister Evelyn Lacock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Community Health Free Clinic and Brucemore.
