He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Cedar and Alice Cedar (Kirchoff); and his grandparents, David, Anna Cedar, Lester and Grace Kirchoff.

He is survived by: his wife Janet Means; his friend Kenny Bern; his children, Paige Cedar of Cherokee, IA, Adam Cedar and Kaely Hummel of Sioux Falls, SD; his siblings, Allan Cedar of Aurelia, IA, Cheryl Peterson (Kurt) of Aurelia, IA and Julia Wharton (Steve) of Cherokee, IA; his niece Anna Wharton (Dylan Rolfes); his children, Maeryn, Clair, Chloe, Mika and Cody Cedar (Katie); his grandchildren, Elsie, Quinn, Nick Cedar (Mary) and Justin Peterson; his great grandchildren, Aiden and Jackson; his grandchild Kolin Peterson (Emily); his great grandchild Charlotte; and also Allayah. He is also survived by many cousins, and friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Brian's name to be used for future projects and organizations dear to him.
