He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Wiersema and Jeanetta Wiersema (Kreykes); his parents-in-law, Calvin and Dorothy Jurgens; his sister Joann Heemstra; his siblings-in-law, Larry Heemstra and Leann Jurgens; and his nephews, Todd Heemstra and Jerad De Vos.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Jurgens; his son Jeremy Wiersema (Amanda); his grandchildren, Joshua (Rock Rapids), Amber and AnnMarie of Steen, Minnesota; his daughter Jennifer Probst (Keith); his grandchildren, Madison, Allison and Matthew of Alton Iowa; his daughter Jaylene De Vos (James); his grandchildren, Julia, Joel and Jakob Ivan of Cherokee, Iowa.; his sister Mary Wurpts (Dale) of Orange City, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Evanette Broek (Darwin) of Sioux Center, Iowa, Rose Markwardt (Phil) of Thornton Iowa, Lois Heemstra of Primghar, Iowa, Dean Jurgens (Karen) of Thornton, Iowa and Kevin. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Boothby Funeral Home (207 E Main St, Cherokee, IA 51012). A burial was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Oak Hill Cemetery (1601 W Main St, Cherokee, IA 51012). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Christ Community Church (208 1st St NE, Primghar, IA 51245).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Ivan's honor to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Foundation or Northwestern College Alumni Fund.
