He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Howard and Johanna Marie Flathers (Gohlmann); his former wife Louise Jochimsen; his wife Roberta Blocker; his grandson Jeffery Flathers; and his brother Donald.
He is survived by: his children, Dean of Maquoketa, Duane of Kentucky, Kurt (Colleen) of Clinton, Jean Grager (Marvin) of Clinton and Ardith Hamilton (Carl) of Bryant; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson, Justin Grager, Travis Grager, Sarah Flathers, Zachery Hamilton, Austin Hamilton and Kristen Flathers. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
