He was predeceased by : his grandparents, Francis, Virginia Valant, Ernest, Irma Kelchen and Marianna Kelchen; his uncles, Michael Valant, David Rummells, Dean Havel and Randall Kelchen; and his aunt Lisa Kelchen.

He is survived by : his parents, Patrick Valant and Kathy Schmidt (Kelchen) of Dyersville; his brothers, Frank of Dyersville and Nathaniel Valant of Dyersville; and his grandparents, David and Kay Schmidt of Conrad. He is also survived by many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
