He was predeceased by : his parents, Isabella Tonderum (Clemitson) and Gustav Tonderum; his wife Shirley Herke; and his siblings, Curt Tonderum, Harlan Tonderum, Benny Tonderum, Mavis Wilson, Marian Wilson and Linda Wilson.

He is survived by : his children, George Michael "Mick" Tonderum (Colleen) of Emmetsburg, Dave Tonderum (Mary) of Emmetsburg, Deb Wickman (Jim) of Emmetsburg and Jim Tonderum (Rachelle) of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his friend Elsie Realini of Canada; and his siblings, Gordon Tonderum (Rosie) of Spencer, Roger Tonderum (Lynn) and Ione Johnson of Estherville, Iowa. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
