He was predeceased by: his parents, Darius Smidt and Minnie Smidt (Ganseveld); his daughter Dorean McLaughlin (John); his siblings, Russell and Howard; and his son-in-law Scott Paulson.
He is survived by: his wife Neoma Smidt of Grafton; his children, Raymond Smidt Jr. of Mason City, David Smidt of Mason City and Diane Rick of Mason City; his stepchildren, Tracy Craig (Randy) of Mason City, Chris Paulson (Brad Ames) of Grafton and Martin McLaughlin of Grafton; his grandchildren, Sherry Gonzales, John McLaughlin Jr., Brittany McLaughlin, Max McLaughlin, Weston Paulson, Aundraya Paulson and Graycen Smidt; his great grandchildren, Alex, Erika, Ian and Rayleigh; and his siblings, Ron Smidt of Kansas and Sharon Levenhagen (Lee) of Mason City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
