With profound sadness, we say goodbye to LaVonne C. Hovenga of Grinnell, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. LaVonne left this world on July 22, 2025 at the age of 87, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Cornie Mooi and Nina Mooi (Janssen); her husband Donald Hovenga; her brother Leslie Mooi; her son Dr. Henry Hovenga; her granddaughter Krystle Strovers; and her daughter-in-law Lois Hovenga.
She is survived by: her children, Diane Hovenga of Newton, IA, Duane Hovenga (Teresa) of Collinsville, OK and Brian Hovenga of Ankeny, IA; her grandchildren, Paul Hovenga (Misty), Ryan Hovenga (Danielle), Matthew Hovenga (Brianna), Emily Hovenga and Laura Hovenga; her great grandchildren, Aubrey Hovenga, Bryson Hovenga, Brooklyn Hovenga, Terra Nunn, Alex Nunn, Ash Hovenga, Lucas Hovenga and Elliana Hovenga; and her sister-in-law Colleen Mooi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Smith Funeral Home - Grinnell (1103 Broad St, Grinnell, IA 50112). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Hazelwood Cemetery (120 1st Ave W, Grinnell, IA 50112).
