He was predeceased by: his parents, Dick Harberts and Enola Harberts (Jacobs); his brothers, Stewart and Steven Harberts; and his stepson Les Verly.

He is survived by: his former wife Alice Peck; his daughter Alice; his wife Maxine Harms of Grundy Center; his children, Richard Harberts (Brenda Payne) of Iowa City and Amy Harberts Olson (Trent Olson) of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Witt Harberts, Payton Olson, Carly Olson and Morgan Olson; his stepchildren, Brad Harms (Rhiannon) of Cedar Falls and Jodi Verly of Grundy Center; his stepgrandchildren, Claire Verly, Ethan Kappel, Brannon Harms and Cael Harms; and his brothers, Paul Harberts (Lynette), Craig Harberts (Dorothy) and Clark Harberts (Julie).
