He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bernard Joseph and Viola Crescentia Thielen (Stoll); his sister Maxine Thielen; his wife Patricia Thielen of Maricopa, Arizona; his children, Dan Thielen, Tony Thielen (Jackie) of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark Thielen of Reno, Nevada, Dean Thielen (Pam) of Elkhorn, NE, Tim Thielen (Ling) of Golden City, Missouri, Prudy Macheledt (James) of Otsego, Minnesota, Jane Klein (Joe) of Harlan, Iowa and Katy Moenkedick (Andy) of Perham, Minnesota; his siblings, Bernie Thielen (Agnes) of Huntington Beach, California, Alice Ann Thielen of New York and Gary Thielen (Gail) of Pullman, Washington; and his brother-in-law Galen "Red" Sorenson of Harlan. He was also cherished by 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.
