He is survived by: his children, Ruth Balch (Liz Wells) of Reno, Renee Portnell (Bob) of Sparks and Rollin Gearhart (Teresa) of Reno; his grandchildren, Stuart Balch (Whitney) of Reno, Shauna Klino (Jeff) and Susie; his children, Sheylah Martin (Patrick) of Sparks, Casey Portnell of Sparks, Wade Gearhart of Reno, Jackie Portnell of Sparks and Alora Gearhart of Reno; his great grandchildren, Amilia of Reno, Grant of Reno and Danica Klino of Reno; his sisters, Shirley McDermott of Atlantic and Myrna Poldberg of Harlan; his parents, Blanche Gearhart and Ellis Gearhart; and his brother Hoyt.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Kerak or Iowa State University at Ames Agriculture Department.
