He was predeceased by: his parents, Florance Gringer and Frieda Gringer (Hills); and his sister Arlene Noble. He is survived by: his wife Mary Hartsock; his children, Jeff Gringer (Galina) of Amman, Jordan, Jane Gringer-Flinn (Kevin) of Bentonville, Arkansas, Jenny Gringer Richards (Chris) of Iowa City and Jill De Young (Paul) of Iowa City; his granddaughter Sophie Silver (Mike) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his children, Carly Branscum (Evan) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Emily Flinn (Christian Neal), Prasad, Maya Richards of Iowa City, Ella, Ceci and Sylvia De Young of Iowa City; and his great grandchildren, Joey, Dahlia, Stetson and Hudson Henry.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service (605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22nd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.

Memorials may be made to Atrium Village in Hills or to the Hills Fire Department.
