She was predeceased by: her parents, Raymond Bender and Ruth Bender; and her husband Richard Hughes. She is survived by: her stepchildren, David, Diane and Donald; her brother Ronald Bender; and her sibling's children, David (Mary Beth), Diane (Chris) and Donald (Lisa). She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oaknoll Foundation, First Methodist Church, or Iowa City Hospice.
