He was predeceased by: his parents, George Deetz and Zelma Deetz (Wittkop); his wife Jeanette Deetz (Cooper); his siblings, George, Roger (Dixie), Edward (Bea) and Rollis (Shirley); his siblings' children, Tom Deetz and Denise Deetz; Harry, Dorothy Foster, David, Nancy Foster, Martha Paul and Julia Foster.
He is survived by: his close friend Donna Weber; his daughters, Sandra Thorington (Rick) and Terri Deetz; his sibling's children, Karen Herring (Ed), Janis Gillaspie (Mike), Barb Deetz, Scott Deetz (Kathryn), Kim Duffy (Charlie), Debbie Davey (Scott) and Jan Arthur (Ken); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Harry, Wendy Foster, Alice, Bob Weber, Lori Foster, Amy Foster and Ron O'Neal.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (2301 E Court St, Iowa City, IA 52245). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery (4200 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402).
