He was predeceased by: his parents, Erwin Lembke and Mildred Lembke (Sass); and his brother Norbert Lembke. He is survived by: his wife Lois; his sons, Ronald Lembke (Becky) and Gary Lembke (Erica); and his grandchildren, Grace and Noah Tibben-Lembke.

In lieu of flowers, Valdean's favorite organizations to support were Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, Lutheran Campus Ministry, and the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic.
