He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Schmidt and Helma Schmidt (Beeck); his wife Leola; his daughter Marilyn; his brother Melvin; and his siblings-in-law, Robert Trefz, Ralph Johnson, Elbert Austin, Henry Lamp, Robert Lamp and Bonnie Lamp.
He is survived by: his children, Gary, Mary Schmidt, Connie and Roger Kleppe of Lost Nation; his grandchildren, Erik Schmidt, Karisa Caes (Chad), Brandon Schmidt, Tracy Kleppe (Cory Hess), Kelly Doll (Scott), Jason Scott and Jasper Scott (Brooke); his great grandchildren, Camrin, Danika Caes, McKenna, Colt Doll, Braydon Cigrand and Eli Scott; his sisters, Beverly Johnson of DeWitt and Elaine Trefz of Davenport; and his sister-in-law Lois Lamp of DeWitt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
