He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Sams and Doris Sams; his brother John Sams, Jr.; his sons-in-law, Rick Collins and Rick Crozier; and his brother-in-law Greg Aalbers.

He is survived by: his spouse Earl Lee Cornelison; his children, Valerie Crozier, Rhonda Collins (Brian), Rodney Cornelison and Reuben Cornelison (April); and his siblings, Delores Hardy (John) of Des Moines, Linda Noland (Joe) of Des Moines, June Aalbers of Kirkville and Roy Sams (Darla) of Des Moines.
