He was predeceased by: his parents, Hilda L. Hawthorn (Deal) and Harry Hawthorn; his wife Judy Hawthorn; and his children, Laura and Daniel.

He is survived by: his children, Yvonne Hawthorn, Joseph Hawthorn (Karen), Douglas Hawthorn, Debborah Elliott (Rick) and Jeffrey A. Hawthorn; his stepchildren, Michael Hotz (Lori) and Karla Armstrong; and his siblings, Bonita Maloney (Larry), David Hawthorn (Diane) and Rebecca Wittke. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
