She was predeceased by: her parents, Gerald Merritt and Martha Merritt (Benton); her spouse Francis Eugene "Gene" Hartzler; and her siblings, Vera McCann and Lewis Merritt.

She is survived by: her children, Connie Moellers of Marion and Jerry Hartzler (Mary) of Kalona; her grandchildren, Melissa Lacina (Martin), Kerstin Marnin (Kristopher) and Renae Becker; her great grandchildren, Claire, Charlotte, Lauren, Eva, Oliver, Noah, Avery and Zayla; and her brother Edward Merritt (Bea) of Virginia.
