She was predeceased by: her parents, William Young and Arlyne Young (Diesch); her son Kyle Smart; and her brother Jerry Young. She is survived by: her husband Joel Smart of Marion; her son Dustin Smart (Kathryn Lee) of North Liberty; and her siblings, Rebecca Tipton (Tom) of Carroll, Robert Bissell (Sherry) of Wellington and Deborah Bird (Richard) of Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Teresa's memory may be directed to Camp Courageous in Monticello.
