He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Klaas and Debra Pickering Klaas; his brother Justin Klaas; and his grandparents, Joseph, Colletta Klaas and Norma Preston.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Terry; his children, Annie Thorne (Joshua) of New Providence, Candace Perez (J. R.) of Liscomb, Christopher Klaas (Amber Risius) of Hubbard, Abbigail Klaas (Tatyana Degeorge) of Albion, Daisy Klaas (Brock Bonschmit) of Marshalltown, Autumn Klaas of Marshalltown and Zoe Draeger of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Cayden Klaas, Jeremy Pagel, Brooklyn Klaas and Izabella Perez; his siblings, Shelly Dickenson (Kent) of Beaman, Kevin Klaas (Carla) of North Carolina, Shari Harding (Steve Hay) of Marshalltown and Jay Klaas (Isabel) of Marshalltown; and his stepmother Linda Klaas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
