She was predeceased by: her parents, William James and Grace James (Tiedeman); and her brothers, Robert DeBord (Greg Fitzsimmons), Doyle Yeutsy (Donna) and Jason Ruzicka.
She is survived by: her husband Darrell Hammarstedt; her children, Brian Hammarstedt (Janine) of Mason City, IA, Nancy Ruzicka of Altoona, IA and Barbara Nauman (Ron) of Floyd, IA; her grandchildren, Michele Werts (Dan), Amanda Steege (Nick), Rob Nauman, Matthew Hammarstedt (Kelsey), David Ruzicka and Brandy Nauman; her great grandchildren, Noah, Tayden, Jack, Derrick, Finn, Charlotte and Emmalin; her sisters, Chris Fitzsimmons of Granger, IA and Rox Ann Northrup (Dick) of Mason City, IA; and her sister-in-law Joanne DeBord of Urbandale, IA.
She then began a 25–year career at Good Shepherd, where she cared for countless residents with compassion and co–founded the Alzheimer's Support Group.
