He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hurlbut and Elma Mae Ruckles Hurlbut; and his brothers, Allen, Charles, Gayle, Merle, Wildon, Paul and Robert.

He is survived by: his wife Johannah S. Hurlbut of Muscatine; his son Bret Hurlbut (Denise); his grandchildren, Ilana and Travis; his son Jason Hurlbut (Carolyn); his granddaughters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Alexandria; his child Jenifer Gosset (Greg); and his grandchildren, Brad and Jennifer.

Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital or Hospice Compassus.
