He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hines and Laura Trout Hines; his wife Kathy; and his brother-in-law Randall Park. He is survived by: his former wife Kathryn Fuegen; his children, Gretchen Hines (Nick Roupas) of Ann Arbor and Lucas Hines of Muscatine; his grandson Ethan Roupas; his sisters, Margaret Gray (Daniel) of Muscatine, Jean Park of Winamac, Marcia Jenkins (John) of Muscatine and Susan Manjoine (Michael) of Muscatine; and his parents-in-law, Verne and Joan Fuegen.
