He is survived by: his wife Laura Ramer; his children, Pat Sywassink of Muscatine, Kathy Smith (Wayne) of Muscatine and Andy Sywassink (Mary) of Muscatine; his stepchildren, Christie Carlson (Aron) of Illinois City and Jamey Thomas (Magen) of Muscatine; his grandchildren, Macey, Riley, Wyatt, Willow, Matthew, Eli and Nicholas; and his stepgrandchildren, Adrianna, Devin, Abby, Grant and Keitin.

Memorials may be directed to the Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department in Thomas' name.
