He was predeceased by : his parents, Peter Mires and Ruby Mires; and his brother Bill Mires. He is survived by : his wife Miekka Mires (Heddens); his children, Paul Heddens (Brenda), Steve Mires (Tonya), Sandy Traimi (John), Rick Mires and George Mires Jr.; his sister Dorothy Cochran; and his grandchildren, Brody Heddens, Tomi Ridgway (Bean), Crystal Bolt and Jennifer Mires.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church – Organ Fund or Iowa City Hospice.
