He was loved and cherished by many people including : his son Ken Hicks (Sarah Kringlen) of Cedar Rapids; his sister Margie Hicks Westphal of Adel; his nieces, Holly and Hailey; his nephew Scott; his close friends, Mike Sladek (Teresa) and Nikki Lara; his former life partner Susan Griffin (Vernon) of Iowa City; and his brother Jim. He was also cherished by four great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
