He was predeceased by : his parents, Alvin Kowalke and Etta Kowalke (Kies); his son Jason Vernon Kowalke; his granddaughter Grace Tipton Kowalke; his parents-in-law, Clyde and Doris Potts; and his siblings-in-law, Cindy Hand, Linda Thornhill, Kathy Nuss and Dennis Potts.
He is survived by : his former life partner Carlene Skinner; his wife Sheri Kowalke; his children, Carmen Dorman (Jeff), Margo Augustine (Jim), Brenda Russell (Jeff) and Tyler Kowalke (Brooke); his stepchildren, Chad Lang (Sara) and Tracy Packingham; his grandchildren, Chelsea Bradley (Jake), Piper Halterman (Tyler), TJ Augustine (Dani Wanninger), Andrew Augustine (Jenny), Libby Leust (Andrew), Jay Russell (Julianna), Seth Russell, Miles and Greta Kowalke; his stepgrandchildren, Garrett of Hunter, T. K., Levi Lang, Taylor Spiess, Paige and Cole Packingham; his great grandchildren, Bennett Augustine and Eleanor Halterman; his sister Marlys Knudson (Craig); and his nephews, Jeff Knudson and Kurt Knudson (Tammy). He is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to either the Paula J. Baber Hospice House or to S.O.F.T. in Vern's memory.
