He was predeceased by : his parents, Henry Wilkening and Bessie Wilkening (Chase); his wife Wilma Schumacher; his son Terry Joe Wilkening; and his siblings, Leslie Wilkening, Frances Leighton and Henrietta Greene Vittitoe (Hankie).

He is survived by : his children, Max Wilkening of Oceanside, James Wilkening of Oceanside, California and Ann Wilkening (Warren) of Olympia; his sisters, Bessie Jean Hollinsworth of North English and Belva Hollingsworth of Sigourney; his sister-in-law Bernice Wilkening of Sigourney; and his daughter-in-law Ione Wilkening of Sigourney.
