He was predeceased by : his parents, George Bowers and Phyllis Bowers (Livengood); his brother Kenny Bowers; and his siblings-in-law, Dick Blok, Harold Bragg and Darlene Bowers.

He is survived by : his wife Carolyn Reed; his children, Steven Bowers (Shari) of Waterloo, Susan Didier (Ron) of Le Mars and David Bowers (Kathy) of Mingo; his grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Didier (Michelle), Kathy Vigneron (Patrick), Ryan Bowers, Elizabeth Burgus (Nick), Shawn Bowers (Jaclyn Resh), Spencer Bowers (Madi Peters), Krista Keltner (Jeremiah) and Dr. Amy Ebel (Dalton); his sisters, Mary Hixson (John) and Delores Bragg; and his sister-in-law Rose Blok.
